Nedap presents award-winning SmartSight and practical new tools for dairy farmers at EuroTier

Nedap SmartSight receives an Innovation Award; four new tools help farmers get more out of the transition period, sorting and pen management.

At EuroTier 2026 in Hannover, from 10–13 November, Nedap will show a range of new solutions designed around improving the everyday life of dairy farmers and the health and performance of their cows. The company’s new SmartSight solution has received a Silver Eurotier Innovation Award. It introduces AI-powered Vision as a new sensing technology, adding continuous, objective visual insights alongside the data farmers already use to manage their herd. Nedap also introduces new ways to monitor the transition period, sort cows with EID ear tags and ensure cows are in the right pen. Its SmartFlow milk meter has been further developed and is now flexibly applicable in any type of conventional milking parlour.

All five innovations further strengthen Nedap’s cow monitoring platform, which connects behaviour, locomotion and production monitoring with reliable identification, practical automation and integrated herd management software.

“The recognition for SmartSight is a meaningful acknowledgement of the work behind it and the enormous potential of Vision technology in dairy farming,” said Maarten Idink, Managing Director at Nedap. “For farmers, what matters is having comprehensive, actionable information they can trust to make informed decisions and take timely action. Whether it is a cow that needs trimming or a health check, a group whose transition is not going as planned or an animal in the wrong pen, these innovations are designed to make their cows thrive and their work easier.”

Nedap SmartSight: helping farmers see mobility issues sooner and act faster

SmartSight brings a new way for farmers to keep track of their cows using AI-based Vision technology. It adds an extra sensing layer alongside Nedap’s cow wearable, milk meter and identification data. Its first application, Locomotion Monitoring, continuously observes how cows move and helps identify mobility issues at an early stage. This gives farmers and hoof trimmers more objective information on which cows need attention and when.

SmartSight supports a shift from fixed hoof-trimming routines towards care based on the condition of each individual cow. A camera above the cow passage uses AI to analyse movement and posture, creating clear work lists for hoof inspection. These include locomotion scores and insights into the severity, progression and recovery of lameness. Earlier intervention can help prevent cases from becoming more severe, supporting cow comfort, health and productive life.

Following commercial validation and successful use on dairy farms ranging from 300 to more than 8,000 cows across Europe and North America, SmartSight will become commercially available in selected European markets from the start of 2027.

New tools for daily herd management

At EuroTier, Nedap will also introduce four new platform capabilities.

Transition Monitoring

The weeks around calving lay the foundation for a cow’s next lactation. Transition Monitoring is a new feature for farmers using Nedap SmartTags for behaviour monitoring, giving them a clearer view of cow behaviour during this crucial period. It provides insights, comparisons and direct feedback on dry-off, transition and fresh-cow protocols. Helping farmers see where routines are working well and where there is room to improve transition health and overall performance.

SmartSort for Ear ID

With a new version of its proven SmartSort gate, Nedap responds to strong demand from farms that use EID ear tags for cow identification. The existing version combines high sorting accuracy and rapid cow throughput with the built-in ID functionality of the Nedap SmartTag Neck. The upcoming configuration extends those same benefits to farms using EID ear tags, making SmartSort suitable for more dairy operations.

Pen Accuracy

Cows in the wrong group may not receive the feed, treatment and care they need. Pen Accuracy, enabled by SmartSort, helps farmers maintain correct group assignment. As cows pass through the sorting gate, it identifies animals in the wrong pen and provides a clear overview. On their next passage, SmartSort can automatically sort them to be guided to the correct group – supporting the right care for their stage of lactation and individual needs.

SmartFlow: flexible production monitoring for every milking parlour

Nedap’s SmartFlow milk meter has been further developed and can now be flexibly installed in any conventional milking parlour. As the world’s only fully wireless, free-flow milk meter, SmartFlow delivers reliable milk data without disrupting the natural milk flow. Previously, SmartFlow was available as part of a wider integrated installation. Farmers can now easily add it to their parlour independently of other integrations or identification systems.

One platform to know more and act sooner

The four innovations on show at EuroTier further strengthen the Nedap Cow Monitoring Platform. It brings together reliable sensing technologies to monitor behaviour, locomotion and production and turns their data into clear, actionable insights in the Nedap Now app.

Farmers can then put those insights into action: SmartSort brings the right cows forward at the right time, while SmartFind helps locate them in the barn. Seamless connections with third-party herd management software and automation solutions create one connected workflow – supporting better, faster decisions for every cow and the herd as a whole.

Visitors can experience the full Nedap Cow Monitoring Platform including these innovations at the Nedap booth during EuroTier, Hannover, 10–13 November 2026 in Hall 11.
