In Stora Skedvi, Dalarna county in Sweden, Elin Janpers and her family, operate two dairy farms. At Janpers Farm, they milk 350 cows using a robot. With 14 employees, running the farm efficiently is essential, and the Nedap Cow Locating system has made a noticeable difference in their daily operations.
“Before implementing Nedap Cow Locating, finding specific cows required visually identifying their color, breed, and ear number—a time-consuming and sometimes frustrating process”, explains Elin. “Now, with cow locating, we save valuable time and effort.”
"This makes our daily routines more manageable”
Having everything integrated into one system has changed how they work. “Whether it’s insemination, health monitoring, or general herd management, we can now quickly locate cows without unnecessary searching. This makes our daily routines more manageable”, Elin notes with satisfaction.
“Every morning, we start the day by checking the system for urgent alerts related to health, insemination needs, or any unusual activity during the night. The system is accessible to everyone on the farm, but it’s primarily used by those working directly with the cows.”
The employees use the system throughout the day, whether for guiding cows to the milking robot, locating animals for insemination, or identifying those that need health checks. When veterinarians visit or hoof trimming is required, the system allows them to find the right cows quickly.
Elin considers the future sustainability of the company: “Our children are also engaged in farming and find it exciting to use the system. They enjoy checking on their cows via the computer, adding a modern and interactive aspect to dairy farming.”
Being able to work efficiently and comfortably is also an important aspect for the entrepreneur. Elin states: “Being able to locate cows without manually searching has had the biggest impact on our workflow. We no longer need to spend unnecessary time looking for animals, allowing us to focus on more essential tasks. This has improved our farm’s overall efficiency and working conditions. For any dairy farm looking to improve day-to-day operations, cow locating is an invaluable tool. It helps us manage our herd with greater accuracy and ease, making our workday much smoother.”
